At Alaska Log Structures, our straight-forward approach to meticulously crafted log homes has turned the ideas of our clients into structures that are not only functional, but enhance the landscape. Our superior log joinery system will insure your home is structurally sound.  Alaska Log Structures veteran staff will guide you through the design phase to a completed product built with the stamp of creativity. Most of our clients have purchased land and have in mind a log home design that fits their personal needs. Some may even have rough sketches. If you've decided on a floor plan, you may be ready to meet with our Architect/designer and start with the preliminary plans and estimates. Our Architect has done over 700 custom log home designs and has a great ability to read what it is that each client is wanting in a custom log home plan.. At this point, there is a deposit required. This gets us started and also covers the expenses for an onsite visit and evaluation of your property. Since all of our projects are custom designed homes, estimates and final cost vary from one home to another.  When it comes to the log portion only, things that will drive costs higher are added log corners, complex log roof designs, custom or curved stairways, using cedar logs or larger diameter logs, extra drilling for through bolting, or specially engineered hardware connections. Once the log home design process and specifications for the project are complete, a down payment is required for logs and for the start of peeling and construction of the log portion in our building yard. A proposal and schedule of events is provided. When the log work is completed, it is ready to be disassembled, loaded on trucks, and shipped to your site. The foundation and sub floor is done just prior to the log work arriving. The walls are then reassembled and insulated, and log roof members installed. All electrical holes and boxes are cut in. At this point, the log portion of the project is complete and ready for one of our crews, or local contractor to do the closed shell – roof decking, insulation, roof coverings (shingles, shakes, metal roof), windows and doors.
